Ernst is a grid computing enthusiast and expert in programming for distributed applications such as workload management systems.

Most recently, he was Director of Engineering at Altair, where he led the engineering team responsible for the Grid Engine. Prior to that, he was a Technical Product Manager at Univa, where he and his team implemented the solutions that enabled on-premises Grid Engine clusters to connect to SaaS environments to achieve milestones such as “One million cores in a Grid Engine cluster”.
